Learn to spin the fun way! Most people start with a simple spindle, a good book, a little wool, and a friend.
Now with the New Spindle! Designed by the Belle herself for The Bellwether.
This kit includes a copy of Spindling: The Basics, a wooden spindle, and 3 ounces of medium wool -- currently a white or cream, a grey or brown, and a medium wool space-dyed pencil roving (please note it is different from the roving shown in the photo!).
This is the kit recommended by Abby Franquemont, author of Respect the Spindle
.
If you'd like to upgrade and replace Spindling: The Basics with my new book, Productive Spindling, there's an option for that by the order button. Productive Spindling covers the basics and adds everything I know about spinning with top whorl, bottom whorl, and Turkish spindles.
The spindle a good starter weight, at 1.6 ounces. The whorl is machine cut and hand-turned to dish out the top for rim weighting (= longer spin time). The shaft of the spindle is 11" sanded birch, and the hook is bent and balanced for spinning.
Spindling: The Basics is written by me and supported by my blog, Ask The Bellwether. If you have questions, be sure to let me know.
These spindle kits each include at least 3 ounces of roving good for a beginning spinner, usually in a variety of colors. Not necessarily the fibers or colors shown here. I try to include a variety of natural and dyed colors.
Great as a gift for friends showing an interest, or a low-cost way to see if spindling should be your newest hobby. Give it a try!
This is a great gift for spindlers-to-be!
