The New Spindle, terrific for The New Spindler!
This is the spindle I've designed for The Bellwether's Learn To Spin Kit. The spindle a good starter weight, at 1.6 ounces. The whorl is machine cut hardwood (Maple or Birch), hand-turned to dish out the top for rim weighting (= longer spin time). The shaft of the spindle is 11" sanded birch, and the hook is opened and bent for spinning.
This spindle does not have a notch; you could file one in, or read my Knitty article, Notchless Top-Whorl Spindles.
More will be available in March, if you need more than the current remaining inventory listed here, please contact me.
Already have fiber? Perhaps you want just the spindle and book (Spindling: The Basics or Productive Spindling). It's a great way to get your spindling going for new spinners and wheel spinners, alike.
Need a bunch for a class? Bulk prices now available here -- buy 5 or more spindles for $4 each. I will ship bulk purchases Parcel Post (First Class International outside the USA), let me know in the comments if you want an adjusted total with Parcel Post/FCI shipping and use Check or "Paypal when order ready" payment methods.
Spindle comes without handspun on it :-) the one shown here has 4.2 ounces of Jacob singles spun onto it, and it is still going strong!
